Accessibility Statement for Matawan Aberdeen Public Library

The Matawan Aberdeen Public Library (MAPL) is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to guarantee that our digital resources are inclusive and accessible to all members of our community.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

Partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA

The MAPL website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard yet, though we are actively working to audit and resolve these areas.

Core Accessibility Features

While we do have an automated overlay accessibility button available in the lower right corner of each page, we realize that these can conflict with personal assistive tools and will be removing it as our platform increases its WCAG compliance. We are regularly updating our site to include more native accessibility features including:

Keyboard Navigation

The website layout can be navigated entirely using a keyboard via the Tab and Enter keys.

Semantic Code Structure

We utilize proper structural headings (H1, H2, etc.) and landmark roles to help screen reader users browse efficiently.

Text Alternatives

We strive to provide descriptive alternative text (alt text) for all meaningful images.

Feedback and Contact Information

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of the MAPL website. If you encounter accessibility barriers, experience formatting issues, or need assistance accessing any of our digital resources, please let us know:
