Get Help with Free Tax Assistance

Since 1968, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has provided free tax help to over 75 million taxpayers, with a focus on older adults with low to moderate income. The program is free and doesn’t require AARP membership. Tax-Aide volunteers are located nationwide, and are trained and IRS-certified every year to make sure they know about and understand the latest changes and additions to the tax code.

In-person assistance will be available at MAPL starting February 10, 2026

Trained Tax-Aide volunteers will be available at Matawan-Aberdeen Library on Tuesdays and Fridays from February 10th through April 10th by appointment only.

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT 

Although MAPL only offers appointments on Tuesdays and Fridays between 10:30am and 2:30pm, additional hours and weekend appointments may be available at other locations in Monmouth County. Check availability by visiting the AARP Monmouth County website and clicking on the Operating Schedule.

Appointments outside of Monmouth County can be made at the National AARP Foundation website.

If you are MARRIED FILING JOINTLY, both spouses SHOULD be present for the appointment. Regardless, however, BOTH spouses are required to sign their joint return, although not necessarily simultaneously.

PREPARE IN ADVANCE OF YOUR VISIT

You can’t just walk in empty-handed or — even worse — with a shoebox full of receipts. Be prepared and you can complete your tax preparation in one visit.
