English as a Second Language (ESL)

Matawan Aberdeen Public Library

We are offering an English Language Conversation group which meets twice a month on the first and third Monday of each month at 7Pm. This is a chance to practice your English. It is a program for those looking to improve their fluency and practice speaking English. Participants engage in one-on-one or small-group conversations with a Conversation Facilitator, discussing a variety of topics. This program is for all levels of learners. Everyone is welcome. No registration required.

Old Bridge Public Library

Old Bridge offers learning in person at the library or online with Zoom.

New Brunswick Free Public Library

New Brunswick offers opportunities for adult emerging bilinguals who are interested in improving their English language skills. They offer a Virtual English Conversation Groups. These conversation groups are for adult language learners (over age 18) who can speak some English. Each week the group will discuss a topic in English to help improve their conversational skills. Advance registration is required to get the Zoom link for these virtual programs.

They also offer an English Conversation Café. Are you interested in practicing English and meeting new people? Join one or more of our English Conversation Cafés! This program is an informal conversation practice group for adult language learners who can hold a simple conversation in English. Participants engage in one-on-one or small-group conversations with Conversation Facilitators discussing a variety of topics. You must be over the age of 18 to participate. Registration is required. You can register online or at the library.

They also offer Citizenship Classes 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in 2025. (Check calendar for exact dates.) This class is available for beginner and intermediate English learners who are legal Permanent Residents (Green Card holders). During the class, you will work with certified teachers and tutors to improve your English. The teachers are Board Certified to represent you with your citizenship case.

Keyport Public Library

Keyport offers ESL classes in person on Mondays at 4:00pm. All are welcome and registration is not required. Please call the library at 732-264-0543 for additional information.

Additional ESL classes may be available through the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development One-Stop Career Centers. These offer services to help individuals develop the skills needed to succeed in a work environment.
