Makers Day

Stop by the library on Saturday, March 21st for a wide array of maker activities!

No registration required.

10am-12pm AND 2-4pm (all morning activities will be repeated in the afternoon)

Robot Hand Stem Activity (Children’s room)

Build your own functional robot hand using cardboard, straws, and string! This hands-on STEM craft teaches biomechanics and engineering as kids design a hand that actually bends, grips, and moves. Perfect for exploring how muscles and tendons work in the human body.

Fuzzy Felt Garden (Children’s room)

Wouldn’t you love to grow a garden? Well, this Maker’s Day, you can do just that without any dirt or mess. Join us in the children’s room and make a delicious-looking garden made out of colorful, fuzzy felt. Is your favorite the eggplant? Or maybe the carrot? Come show us your “gardening” skills. This project is designed for our littlest patrons and their caretakers, but all are welcome to participate.

Popsicle Stick Bird Feeders (Children’s room)

Spring is upon us and that means lots of birds visiting our yards! Let’s help our feathered friends fill their tummies by making popsicle stick bird feeders. Join us in the children’s room this Maker’s Day to create this awesome avian accessory. You will even be sent home with some bird seed to fill your new feeder!

Castle Creators (Children’s room)

Calling all knights, princesses, dragon slayers, and magicians! Stop by the Children’s Room to build with our castle blocks! Work together to craft towers and turrets and rooms fit for a king. While you’re here, fill out a raffle ticket because one lucky patron will win the blocks to take home to their own kingdom!

Maker Inspiration Room (Meeting room)

Sometimes all we need is a little push to try something new. MAPL offers electronic resources that are perfect for finding your next favorite hobby. Stop by the meeting room to watch crafting and making tutorials on two platforms that are available with your library card—Creative Bug and Library Chef. You never know what you might learn!

Magnetic Mini Art (Balcony)

Use images, words, sparkles (no glitter!), scraps, doodads, and other nonsense to create a fridge-worthy masterpiece. Snip it. Layer it. Bedazzle it. Make it weird. Turn trash into treasure. Boring into bonkers. Lid into LEGEND. Your fridge is ready for its main character moment.

Grow Your Own: Planting Station (DVD area)

Stop at the planting station and plant your own seeds. Bring the planted seeds home and watch them grow into plants for your garden or window box!  Written instructions will also be provided to help keep your flowers growing all summer long.

Button Studio! (Reference room)

Everyone is invited to drop in and design their very own custom buttons. Whether you draw your own masterpiece, create a colorful pattern, or show off your favorite quote, you’ll turn your ideas into wearable art to take home.

micro:bit Create AI (Tech desk)

Learn how AI works with this hands-on demonstration using micro:bit CreateAI. Train a machine learning model on your own body movement data and run it on a hand-held micro:bit. Enter a raffle at the Tech desk to win a set of micro:bits to take home with you!

BEFORE YOU LEAVE, DON’T FORGET TO FILL OUT A FEEDBACK FORM AT THE LIBRARY’S ENTRANCE TO ENTER TO WIN A MAKERS DAY PRIZE!
