Social Work Services

What are the MAPL Social Work Services all about?

At Matawan Aberdeen Public Library, our Social Worker provides a welcoming, confidential, and strength-based environment to help connect patrons with the resources, advocacy, and support they need in their daily lives. Support will be offered in multiple ways, through one-on-one assistance, as well as programs designed to benefit the broader community. The Social Worker will also collaborate with community members and officials to identify needs and guide the development of relevant services.

The Social Worker will be available through weekly drop-in hours as well as scheduled appointment-based sessions. For patrons who are unable to visit the library during these times, virtual or phone appointments can also be arranged.

Please note:
Library social work services, while increasingly common, DO NOT offer direct therapy, medical or mental health treatment, or guaranteed shelter or housing. Our services primarily focus on connecting individuals with existing resources, providing information, and facilitating access to community services.
In case of emergency: If you, or someone you know, is experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 9-8-8 for immediate assistance. If you, or someone you know, is experiencing a medical emergency, please call 9-1-1 for immediate assistance. If you, or someone you know, is in need of emergency housing, please call 2-1-1 for assistance.

SNAP Assistance

See what SNAP can do for you! New Jersey’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provides food assistance to families with low incomes to help them buy groceries through a benefits card accepted in most food retail stores and some farmers markets.

Representatives from the Tzu Chi Foundation (a humanitarian non-profit organization) will answer your questions about SNAP and can assist you with the application. For current recipients, we can answer or guide you to keeping benefits based on our best knowledge and experience. Dates: 9/27, 10/11, 11/08, and 12/13, from 10am to 1pm. No appointment needed!

QUESTIONS? Contact as at 732.583.9100 or info@mapl.org, or call the Tzu Chi Foundation directly at 732.518.8405.
